‘Starlings’ by C. Murray

Poethead

starlings

the sea opened its avenue just now
pearl-throated I
they call              mother     mother

sweet the sun-in
     to walk up into it

and the starlings have come to peck the grass
round us
the young are screaming for the bread that is
at their feet
